Timestar halted his circling, and watched approvingly as Ancientpaw became nearly entirely invisible.
"Very good, you're getting better."
Nodding, the leader got down into a crouched position, tail thrashing, a mischevious glint in the bright eyes that shone like coals in the sparce moonlight.
"Now let's try your battle training."
Timestar mrrowed, stalking quietly through the brush before suddenly flickering out of sight, to appear behind Ancientpaw. TwilightClanners were probably the hardest to detect in battle, and he would hold nothing back to teach Ancientpaw their ways. Briefly, he tried to remember the days he had trained to master his new found skills, before another flitting shadow at the corner of his vision made him whip his unseeable face to the right. Timestar's eyes searched the shadows, but saw nothing once more, and he turned his attention back to Ancientpaw. [/blockquote]

Ancientpaw saw a flicker that time and gasped, "Timestar your not imagining it! I saw that flicker too. Some cat is spying on us, or something." The young apprentice scooted closer to his mentor and waited for him to do something. Ancientpaw didn't know what the flicker was, but he didn't know what it was. For all Ancientpaw knew the flicker was a fox or a badger coming to take on of them as it's prey or for fun.

Timestar nodded at Ancientpaw's words and flicked his whiskers forward silently. Many animals of the night prowled here, from skunks and raccoons to foxes and badgers. TwilightClan's territory had its fair share of predators. Well, it must not be an owl, it's on the ground. Owls were particularily dangerous because they could swoop in and pluck a cat up without a sound. However, Timestar didn't hear the tell-tale signs of the bird, the rummaging of it grooming its feathers or hooting in the dead of night.
"Stay close, but be ready to run for help. Wouldn't want you getting hurt, now. If you must, turn invisible."
The tom whispered to Ancientpaw, before creeping forward without a sound, his pelt rippling against the light before he seemingly disappeared altogether, his pawsteps emitting no soundwaves. Brushing a fern to one side, his unseeable, hanging tail raised, and he became visible again. What a discovery!
"It's only a fawn, Ancientpaw. We're safe." [/blockquote]

Ancientpaw saw the fawn and whispered, "I've never seen a fawn before. Its so cute!" The small indigo apprentice paused and then continued on, "Timestar do you think this fawn would run because of us? I want to get a closer look at it. I don't want to eat it because its only a baby. I want to see what it looks like up close. Do you think it will run?" The indigo apprentice stared at the fawn in awe and remembered the deer meat he had had earlier, "A fawn is a baby deer isn't it?"

Timestar curled the tip of his tail in amusement and looked at Ancientpaw a moment, before looking back at the fawn. It was curled up, trying to hide, and had the biggest eyes of anything he had ever seen. But to Timestar, nothing was cuter than a kit. Looking back to Ancientpaw, he listened and answered in his own whisper,
"It might run if it feels threatened, so I can't say for sure if it will run or not. And...yes, a fawn is a young deer."
He frowned somewhat, remembering the deer they had been eating earlier. Well, that had been a buck, so this fawn's mother should be close by. Which made it all the more dangerous.
"We must be careful, does can be very vicious if they feel their young are threatened."
The tom cautioned the apprentice, as he himself began to sniff the air for signs that the mother deer was nearby. [/blockquote]

"I'll be careful Timestar. If I scent any danger from the fawn's mother then I will return immediantly." Ancientpaw didn't wait for a response from his mentor, but kept his ears and nose alert for signs of the fawn's mother. Ancientpaw got closer to the fawn without stalking or anything to try and show the fawn and its possible nearby mother that he meant no harm. Ancientpaw sniffed the air and took in the fawn's scent. His eyes taking in what the fawn looked like. Then Ancientpaw started doing something that he didn't think was possible. He started talking to the fawn. "Its ok little one. I won't hurt you. I am just curious and have never seen a fawn before, nor a doe for that matter. Please be still and let me look at you. After this I promise I will leave you alone." Suddenly Ancientpaw scented a new smell that was similar to the fawn's and realized that it was behind him. Somehow the doe had snuck up on the indigo apprentice. "Mousedung," Ancientpaw said to himself. The small apprentice slowly sidestepped the doe showing no anger or threats to her and trying to reassure the fawn and its mother that he was leaving in respect of the doe. Soon Ancientpaw returned to Timestar and whispered, "How was that?"

Timestar watched cautiously and a bit on edge as the apprentice approached the fawn, and he heard him talking to it. He heard movement in the ferns, and turned invisible from habit as the doe appeared, and Ancientpaw eluded her anger and left the pair in peace. The graceful creature nosed her young up and hurried it away worriedly, licking over its face. The leader became visible with a sigh of relief and turned to the indigo apprentice.
"You did well."
The navy and ice blue leader answered somewhat bluntly, glancing up at the moon that was partially but not quite to midnight yet. He shook his fur over and turned to his apprentice.
"Want to practice some fighting moves?"
Timestar asked, the tip of his tail flicking. [/blockquote]

Ancientpaw looked at Timestar with a mischievous look in his eye. He leapt at Timestar claws sheathed and landed on the older tom's back, "Teach me during this little fight." He batted his mentor's ear and leapt off of his back. The indigo apprentice eye's glowed happily as he stared up at his leader waiting for Timestar to flick a paw back at him. Suddenly Ancientpaw had an idea. He closed his eyes and the same prickling sensation he had felt earlier had returned once more. He opened his eyes and looked down, "I'm completely invisible," he whispered in awe. Suddenly his pelt was visible again and he sat down and waited for his leader to reply. Ancientpaw wanted to be the best warrior that he could in his Clan and Timestar seemed to be patient around the wild apprentice. "Sorry. I was overly excited. What move do you want to teach me first?"

Timestar wasn't entirely ready for his apprentice's suprise attack, and he crouched down from the weight and bit upwards at Ancientpaw's chest, but not very hard. He swatted the younger tom's ear as he jumped away, and trashed his tail mischeviously. Watching him inquisitively, Timestar nodded approvingly as the apprentice turned invisible, and approached him with a curling tail-tip. Smiling faintly, he thought through the index of warrior moves he had memorized, and pulled a very useful one up.
"The belly-rake would be important. If your opponent ever gets on top of you with your bellies facing, kick and scrabble at their belly with your back feet and pin their head and neck down with your front, biting at their eyes. Only use this if you are heavily threatened, though. It can be very damaging."
He had to add in the last two sentences because he had seen warriors who bullied each other by practicing this move. It made his eyes narrow at the thought, before his attention was turned to his apprentice. Timestar flickered unseeable and pounced on Ancientpaw, pinning him to the ground with his larger weight. Ancientpaw nodded and then he felt Timestar's weight. Ancientpaw pushed his back paws upwards and started 'scratching' Timestar's belly even though his claws were sheathed. The young tom then pushed up a little more and threw Timestar off of him a little bit. Ancientpaw got up and said, "How was that Timestar? I didn't hurt you did I? Some of the warriors had told me of that move and I wanted to try it, but since this is training I didn't want to push to hard and hurt you." The indigo apprentice fell silent and waited for his metor to reply.

Timestar blinked and held fast as Ancientpaw "scratched" at his belly, and stumbled sideways as he was pushed off. Flicking a navy blue tail, he murmured a purr of approval, and scratched his ear for a second before turning back to his apprentice.
"You did well, though if you were to do so in battle, don't hesitate on holding back."
Glancing at the moon that had reached midnight, Timestar twitched his nose and padded into some ferns, smelling a mouse sleeping in a shallow hole in the ground. He beckoned for Ancientpaw to come over, and nodded towards the hole.
"Let's see your hunting skills now." [/blockquote]

Ancientpaw nodded and looked around. He saw a mouse and he licked his lips. He crouched down and stalked forward, suddenly the wind changed and the mouse took off. Ancientpaw shot forward and he grabbed the mouse and just as he was about to kill it it squeaked and Ancientpaw knew that the prey would hide for awhile. "Here's a mouse, but it warned the other prey in the area. I don't think there will be any other prey for awhile." He waited for Timestar to reply and praise him or chastise him.

Timestar watched Ancientpaw as he proceeded to catch the mouse, but indeed, it squeaked, and the forest grew a bit quieter as the other rodents in the area were warned. The leader tom twitched his nose and replied.
"Yes, it did warn the other prey. That is why you must kill it swiftly, so that the other prey in the forests does not suspect you are near."
Timestar scratched a dark blue ear a moment before shaking his fur and looking towards camp.
"Do you feel ready to become a warrior, Ancientpaw?"
He asked, a mischevious glint in his eyes. Ancientpaw was much smarter than most apprentices he had had, and seemed to already know most of what Timestar would normally have to teach him. He deserved to become a warrior sooner.

"Yes, but I just became an apprentice Timestar. I still need to perfect my skills before I can be considered as a warrior. I have to be at least 12 or 13 moons old to be a warrior right?" The indigo apprentice waited for his leader to reply knowing that he was probably right about the warrior age thing.

Timestar flicked his ears and looked at Ancientpaw, nodding with a low oh silly little tom of a chuckle. He knew most apprentices took many moons to perfect and learn skills down to the nail, but Ancientpaw was not like the others. He had come to Timestar already knowing much of what Timestar would normally have to teach, such as being able to turn invisible to some degree and being able to hunt and fight. The leader was not sure what to think of the younger tom, personally. Had he mimicked and learned from watching the warriors when he was younger? Or was there another quality at work-- perhaps even another force altogether?
The questions buzzed and whirred like wasps in the dark and light blue tom until he shook his head, eyes narrowing and dialating in the peaceful night.
"Most apprentices do take a long time to learn completely-- most would not have been able to do what I've asked you to do these past two days. But, for some reason or another, you are much more advanced..."
Timestar looked to Ancientpaw with a wry smile, before batting at his ears playfully.
"Mind telling me your little secret?"
He questioned, a warm glow to his bright yellow eyes, shining like embers in the moonlight.

"There isn't much of a secret Timestar. I just watch and learn with earnest." Ancientpaw shrugged and waited for his leader to reply excited that he would be a warrior soon, but of course he was still too young to be a warrior and so he had to wait patiently for his time to be warrior and waited for his next set of instructions.

The older tom raised what would be an eyebrow if he had one, and smiled at the apprentice's rather honest answer. Surely just watching the others wouldn't be enough to bring the apprentice that far ahead? After all, any small kit could easily watch one warrior cuff the other and then mimic it on a littermate. Was that really all Ancientpaw had done; just observing the others?
Well, Timestar would have to ponder over it later, as he heard the almost soundless wingbeats of a small, young owl, landing a few ways away in a tree. The leader flickered into the darkness, unseeable eyes trained on the bird above.
"Think you can catch an owl, Ancientpaw?"
Timestar whispered, watching as the predator nonchalantly groomed its feathers. It would be a challenge requiring speed, silence, and accuracy.

Ancientpaw tilted his head to one side and said, "I have never seen an owl. What is that?" The wildly patterened apprentice waited for his leader and mentor to reply. The small apprentice purred happily knowing that he was an apprentice and that he was doing the best that he could to be a good warrior of TwilightClan. Anicentpaw wondered what the other Clans were like and if he would ever have a friend there.

Timestar's features warped a bit at the apprentice's reply. How could a cat of TwilightClan not know what an owl was? The leader's face softened as a part of his mind remembered that Ancientpaw was only an apprentice with much to learn, and that he might not have experienced an owl attack in his short lifetime. The tom remained unseeable but let his bright eyes appear, to look at the younger tom with infinite patience.
"An owl is a predator bird, very silent in flight and potentially deadly if it decides to hunt you. But if you catch them off guard, they can prove to be a large meal that will nourish the Clan for a few days. They are distinguishable by their hooting calls."
As if to add to the lesson, the bird shuffled its feathers and let out a low hooooot, hooot, high above the two cats. Timestar's eyes turned up to watch the bird warily a moment before turning back to Ancientpaw.
"Think you can catch it? You'll have to be quick.

Ancientpaw gave a look of recognition, "Oooooohhhhhhh. That is what an owl is. I had called it a Silent Stalker. I just never knew that was what it's true name was." Ancientpaw purred happily knowing that he had figured that mystery out and then slowly turned invisible. He quietly padded toward the tree with the owl and gently climbed it. Soon Ancientpaw was slowly walking on the branch that the owl was on. The owl was trying to find him and soon found his presence, but it was too late. Suddenly Ancientpaw was visible with the owl dead at his paws. "How was that Timestar? I am so glad to know that the Silent Stalker is actually something that we know of." The indigo tom's tail waved back and forth to signal his happiness as he waited for his leader to reply. He couldn't wait to be a warrior. 'What will my name be? Ancientcloud? Ancientrune? Or maybe even Ancientspring. Oh oh. I also like the name Ancientsong.' These four names appealed to Ancientpaw the most and hoped that one of these would be chosen for him or something similar to them. Ancientpaw yawned and licked his lips, "I'm tired, Timestar. It must nearly be dawn already."
