This is a guide for those new to Konara Forests, something to help get them started. =]
1. Creating an account.
- Simply click on the "register" link underneath the big picture of a cat above everything else. You will be given instructions further automatically by ProBoards' registration system. After you recieve your activation e-mail and your account is activated, procede to the next bullet.
- So, your account is activated? Great! Start by personalizing your display name, you know, making sure it's capitalized and looks neat. Then you can fill in your location, avatar URL, signature, and everything else you can personalize. Click "modify account" and viola! You've just made yourself an organised, professional profile. Feel free to dress it up with symbols, avatars, and other neat little things.
2. Creating a character.
- You're probably wondering "How/Where do I make my cat and join the roleplaying?"
Well, it helps if you're knowledgable about feral cats, since that is what Konara Forests is loosely based on. If you haven't... well.. I suggest you research it a little. Otherwise things won't make any sense. - Start by reading the rules. They are located under the LINKS menu in the sidebar. Only then will you be able to make a character. Once you've read them, return to this thread.
- Secondly, scroll through the colony header on the main page, and read up on each colony. Which colony lifestyle and general image appeals to you?
- Remember, a cat under 6 months can join a colony. An adult female can join a colony.
An -adult- male /CANNOT/, since in cat society, males live alone.
A male cat will have to either claim an empty territory near a colony, or challenge another male for his territory.
Once you decide, think of what it will look like. - The colonies are divided based on coat color, as is explained below:
----Normal colored cats, such as calicoes, tabbies, and tortoiseshells, would join the Climbers because the mountain colony is made up of the traditional, naturally colored felines. If your cat doesn't have any strange or unnatural colors, they would go in this colony.
----Purple, Blue, and Green cats would join the Prowlers, since that colony inhabits a dark territory and are nocturnal. Because they are active at night, they have dark colors. If your cat has a lot of purples, blues, or greens to their coat, they would go in the twilight colony.
----Red, Orange, Yellow, and Pink cats would join the Swimmers, since that Clan is active during the day amongst a mostly yellow and orange environment of reeds and grasses. They have the warm colors of the rainbow. If your cat has mostly reds, oranges, yellows, or pinks to their coat, they would go in the sunset colony.
----Cats with combinations of 4 or more coat colors (such as a cat that is blue, orange, pink, and green), or wild coat patterns (such as a blue cat covered in neon orange stars and stripes) would join the Sprinters, since that colony relies on speed, not camoflauge, to catch their prey. If your cat has 4 or more coat colors or a bright, wild coat pattern, they go in the tornado colony. - Once you've decided what colors your cat has and which colony it fits into, check the Character Encouragements, Discouragements, and Bans in the top table on the homepage. If the kind of character you want to make is banned at the moment, you'll have to think up a new one.
- Click on the board "Begin your painting", on the home page, and click on the topic "Official Bio Form". Highlight the form in the grayish looking box.
(The box will look a little like this:)This is an example:
Right click on the highlighted text. Then rightclick and select "Copy", and then hit the Back button on your browser. - Now, look towards the bottom of the table. There is an icon that says "New topic" or "Post new topic". Click it.
- You will see a screen with a small text area labled "Subject" and a large text area labeled "Message". Type in the subject the name of your cat, and what they are (colony cat, lone male, etc).
Example subject: Thorn the Lone Male
Then, right-click into the large text area, and select "paste". The form will then be pasted into the text area. Now's the fun part: just answer the questions about your character!
HINT: When you see something like this:Name:
Type OUTSIDE of the brackets:
Example:
WRONG -- [b*]Name: Thorn[/*b]
RIGHT -- [b*]Name:[/*b] Thorn - After everything is filled out, press the "Post Message" button, and wait for staff to reply to your thread with an acceptance.
- After it is accepted, your character's biography will be moved by staff to a corresponding sub-board.
Once your character is accepted, its name and a link to its biography will be added to the main header, so that you can access it easily at any time!
Once you have an accepted character, move on to step #3!
3. Stepping into Roleplay.
- To start off, go to the homepage and find the board that contains your cat's territory or colony.
-Example: If I wanted to roleplay Thorn the Lone male, I go to his territory board.
If I want to roleplay Aja the Swimmer, I go to the sunset colony board. - Once you're inside the board, you can do one of two things: (1.) join an existing thread, or (2.) start a new one.
----(1.)- If you see a thread you'd like to join, make sure that the thread is open to everyone, and then click on it. Read the posts the other people have made, for it will tell you what has already happened, and what might happen. Don't be lazy; this is crucial if you want to make a nice start.
Scroll down to the "Quick Reply" box, and reply with your roleplay post (or, if you like, click the "Reply" button and have the whole set of tools to reply with).
**You should only reply with what your cat is doing, otherwise you will be powerplaying the other members' characters if you roleplay with them. Only say what your cat is doing/saying/thinking.
Then, hit the "Post Message" button and tada!, your first roleplaying post has been created.
*Check back every now and again to see if anyone has replied!
----(2.)- To make your own roleplaying post, click the "New topic" or "Post new topic" button, just like you did when you made your character. There you can title your thread, and type what your character is doing/thinking/ ect.
*Be sure to type only what your character is doing; you only know what your character is up to, you do not know how other people's characters will react or think until they reply. Even then, only roleplay your own character. - You might wonder "What is roleplay?"
It is where you narrate your character's life as though it were your own, like you might read in a book. It can be either first person (using I, me, my) or third person (using he/she, they).
-Example:
'Thorn stretched for a long moment before stepping out of the fallen log he had claimed, his newly earned scar from yesterday still hurting. He sneezed in the morning air, for the wind had blown pollen to his den overnight. Orange eyes glared around at the forest, as if it had done him wrong. "I better go see what's going on at the lake," the tom mumbled, flicking his tail and setting out with a steady gait, sniffing the air for signs of intruders. A stupid young tom had wandered here just yesterday, and refused to leave without a fight. Luckily Thorn had easily toppled him, though not without a few scratches. "Dern kids these days, think they know everything," the blue cat growled to himself, stopping to scratch at the base of a tree. His claws drew long, uneven marks through the bark with a satisfying scriiiitch. Thorn hoped any new intruders would see the marks and know to stay away.'
That is an example of a good roleplay post. It has 162 words.
The minimum is 150 words per post when you roleplay.
It can be a little under if you can't seem to type anymore, such as 140 words or so, but any less than 130 and you will start receiving warnings. Posts with only one or two lines are prohibited.
All of the above is simply the BASICS of joining.
There are many other things to explore here at Konara Forests, like contests, buying extras for your characters, getting involved in interesting plots, and making things for other members, as well as the many games in the "Games" board.
Take a moment to look around, and have fun as always!
